Marcus Maye, Alex McCalister and Latroy Pittman to miss Florida Gators’ season
The program announced that redshirt juniors Alex McCalister and Marcus Maye, along with senior Latroy Pittman, are suspended for violating university athletic department policy.
McCalister had six sacks past year for the Gators and is expected to be a key contributor to the defensive line.
Florida will be without three players, including two projected starters, when it takes the field for its season opener against New Mexico State. Maye, also a redshirt junior, has started 11 games at UF.
If all players face no further punishment, they will be eligible to return and play in the Gators’ second game of the season against East Carolina on September 12. In total, Pittman has 19 catches for 188 yards in his career and is expected to be a contributor in 2015.
The Gators are listed as 36-point favorites in the opener against the Aggies. Odds are the absence of these three won’t have too large an effect on the final outcome.
