Marcus Smart dislocates two fingers in summer league game
Celtics summer league head coach Micah Shrewberry revealed Friday afternoon that Smart will undergo further testing when he returns to Boston.
“They just said dislocation”, Shrewsberry told reporters. Still, the Celtics were relieved that the X-rays on Smart’s hand were negative. He wants to see it through.
James Young’s quest to find rhythm carries on after he returned from injury Thursday night with nine points on 2-for-8 shooting. No reason to take another risk. I thought he did a good job of that. The undrafted free agent from Texas has played very well here, averaging 13 points and 6.3 rebounds per game. “He’s been with us since early July also and he’s as big a cheerleader as there is”. The risk for injury is magnified during the rigors of five-on-five play, a reality that Marcus Smart now fully understands.
“We do have (athletic trainer) Ed (Lacerte) and (physical therapist) Todd (Campbell) here who can work with him and be with him”, Shrewsberry said. “We just wanted to put the ball in his hands and give him opportunities”.
Holmes, widely projected as a second-round pick, was a hot commodity on the free agent market after going undrafted.
“It’s great. Terry plays with a lot of confidence”, Shrewsberry said. Now, he hopes, a team will take a chance on him. “He’s that comfort for you at night when you get scared, so he’s a good guy to have around”. “I’m just taking it one day at a time, trying to do my best”.
