Marcus Thornton agrees to one-year deal with Rockets
The Houston Rockets have had a quiet offseason, with their biggest move being re-signing point guard Patrick Beverley.
Free agent guard Marcus Thornton has agreed to a one-year contract with the Houston Rockets.
While Thornton won’t add much defensively and isn’t known to be a high end assist man he will offer an asset the Rockets offense is built around … three point shooting.
Thornton will sign a one-year deal at the veteran’s minimum, a person with knowledge of the deal said.
Thornton can get up the floor and hit 3s in transition, he can spot-up from the outside and provides a weapon to allow spacing.
Marcus Thornton is giving the Houston Rockets back court depth while joining his sixth National Basteball Association franchise on a one-year minimum contract.
Dutt would not identify other teams interested though the Miami Heat had made a comparable offer. The 28-year-old shot a mere 40.6 percent in a reduced role with Phoenix and Boston last season, and he won’t be a viable fantasy option while James Harden is healthy.
Thornton should fit right in with the Rockets style of play because they love to shoot a ton of three pointers, and so does Thornton. He’s been a bench player most of his career, yet he still has a career average of 12.7 points per game, which goes up to 18.5 points per 36 minutes.
Thornton’s best season came with the Sacramento Kings in 2011-2012.
