Mariah Carey and Katy Perry for Harper’s Bazaar icon series
Oprah Winfrey transformed into Glinda the Good Witch for the September Icons Issue of Harper’s Bazaar. Check out the picture Carey shared on social media at right and below!
For the editorial spread, the stars get into character as their own personal icons shot by legendary photographer and internet-breaker Jean-Paul Goude with creative direction by Stephen Gan.
Katy Perry channels the great Elizabeth Taylor for a new magazine spread – and it turns out that the screen legend might be inspiring Perry in more ways than one. Carey’s look was completed with the help of a Tom Ford corset, as well as an actual petticoat and stockings.
Mariah – who is pictured on a swing in an old fashioned pink dress with flowers in her hair – said: “I’m pretty much the opposite of Marie Antoinette, but it’s always fun to throw on a costume”. As Gossip Cop reported, the clip for Hype Energy also had Kardashian portraying Audrey Hepburn. “BAZAAR version of my she-ro Glinda“.
Katy, 30, poked fun at herself as she spoke of her enjoyment at dressing up as the late actress Elizabeth Taylor – who married eight times to seven different men.
Then there’s Mariah Carey as Marie Antoinette, Dakota Johnson as Aphrodite, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley as former Vogue editor Diana Vreeland, Jessica Chastain as Joan of Arc, Oprah as Glinda the Good Witch, and Willow Smith as Indian goddess Kali. “You’re born with it, you always have it. It doesn’t matter how many yellow brick roads you go down, it’s always right there in your heart”. “To me, she embodies the power of love and pleasure, and represents the mystery and intricacy of women”, Johnson told Harper’s Bazaar.
Icons by Carine Roitfeld and Jean-Paul Goude appears in the September issue of Harper’s Bazaar, on sale August 4.
