Mariah Carey gets engaged to billionaire boyfriend James Packer after whirlwind romance

Mariah has been dating the Australian business mogul since the summer and the pair spent Christmas with her twins, Monroe and Moroccan.

Packer reportedly proposed to Carey in her hometown of NY on Thursday night, with a 35-carat ring, but no date has been set for the wedding.

According to reports, the Australian businessman, 48, got down on one knee in NY after rounding up some of the star’s closest friends to witness the special moment.

Around that same time sources told Mirror that Packer was hopeful that he and Carey would be married in the not-so distant future.

The couple confirmed they were an item last June shortly after they were photographed on a luxury holiday together in Italy.

According to Forbes magazine, Packer is Australia’s fourth-richest person with a fortune estimated at around $4.7 billion. Her first husband was Tommy Mottola.

It’s certainly not the first expensive gift Packer has given the diva; she wore a blinged-out Van Cleef & Arpels necklace to an interview with Steve Harvey back in November. “We were at the “Hercules” premiere”. The designer, who is an old friend of Carey’s, said Packer was involved in the design process, adding: “He wanted to create something very rare and very attractive around this diamond he chose, and I followed his lead”.

For James Packer the rule of spending one to three month’s salary on an engagement ring doesn’t work.
