Mariah Carey lambily joins cast of ‘The Lego Batman Movie’
But a little while ago, Hollywood Reporter writer Borys Kit tweeted that this was incorrect: rather, he claimed, she’d be playing the Mayor of Gotham. THR has broke a lot of casting news about LEGO Batman so far, so I think it’s safe to go with them on this one. The original report follows…
Five-time Grammy award victor Mariah Carey has been approached to provide the voice of Batman’s police department ally, Commissioner Gordon, in 2017’s animated comedy “The Lego Batman Movie”, reports Deadline. The character has previously been played in live-action projects by Gary Oldman within the Dark Knight trilogy & Ben McKenzie on Fox’s Gotham collection.
“Several classic, male-driven films (Ghostbusters, Oceans 11) are being spun back out with a cast of women stepping into the characters” well-worn shoes, and The Lego Batman Movie seems to want a chunk of that buzz as well.

Here’s a few news that might animate Mariah Carey’s fans.
She joins Will Arnett as Batman (reprising his role from The LEGO Movie), Michael Cera as Robin, Zach Galifianakis as The Joker, Rosario Dawson as Barbara Gordon/Batgirl, and Ralph Finnes as Alfred Pennyworth.
In addition to this voice acting role, she has also aligned herself with a Christmas-themed movie pitch, though there are no concrete details on it just yet. The superstar singer famously flopped with the musical big screen vehicle “Glitter”, but has since proven she’s got chops, particularly with her gritty turn in Lee Daniels’ “Precious”.
