Marine found dead with gunshot wound at Camp Pendleton
Officials said the Marine was part of a training exercise in which live ammunition was used.
An investigation has been initiated and no additional details are available from Camp Pendleton at this time, the release stated.
The body of a Marine was found at a Camp Pendleton shooting range Monday morning, according to a published report.
Camp Pendleton Federal Fire Department responded to the scene and said they could not determine how the Marine was shot.
The rifle range is a facility Marines go through to develop their “fundamental combat marksmanship” skills, 1st Lt. Colleen McFadden, public affairs officer of 1st Marine Division, told NBC News.
McFadden said caring for the Marine’s family and unit friends is the “priority”.
It spans over 125,000 acres of land and is home to more than 38,000 military family members, who stay in housing complexes at the base.
