Mariners’ Cano to have sports hernia surgery

Hahn said the team will not be renewing the contract of bench coach Mark Parent, and assistant hitting coach Harold Baines has requested to move into an ambassador role.

Parent found out his contract wasn’t being renewed following the Sox’s loss to the Kansas City Royals last night.

Parent, 54, managed two seasons in the Philadelphia Phillies organization (2010-11) before joining the White Sox in manager Robin Ventura’s first season.

“I’m accountable for what I had to do”, Parent said by phone Friday morning.

The White Sox, expected to be much-improved after acquiring Jeff Samardzija, Melky Cabrera, David Robertson and Adam LaRoche, have disappointed with a 74-85 record before Friday. “I think we continue to push on that”.

Parent was offered the chance to finish out the season with the club but declined, according to multiple reports.

Parent joined Ventura’s staff in 2012 following 13 seasons as a catcher and a stint as a minor league manager. He’s an uninspiring 295-350 in his managerial career.

“If I didn’t feel, if we didn’t feel as an organization that Robin had the ability to be a championship-caliber manager, he wouldn’t be here”, Hahn said. “I retired [before]. Being retired was boring”.
