Mario Gotze: Borussia Dortmund re-sign forward from Bayern Munich
The 24-year-old playmaker enjoyed a hugely successful first stint at the club where he won back-to-back league titles, making 116 appearances while scoring 31 goals.
Mario Gotze failed to play a significant role at Bayern Munich during his three years at the clubs.
“Three years later, and being 24 now, I look at my choice differently”, Goetze wrote on his Facebook page. I can understand the fact that many fans were unable to understand my decision.
Gotze even hinted he may be interested in a move to Merseyside, but the lure a return to the club where he enjoyed his finest days turned out to be impossible to resist.
“When I switched from BVB to Bayern in 2013, “that was a conscious decision behind I will not hide myself today. I see Mario as a central player, I want to see him laugh again more often”. “I have since his departure in 2013, always hoped that he will one day return to us”, said Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke. “All of our negotiations have been characterised by great seriousness and mutual trust”. “For all of us, the club and the BVB fans”.
Gotze’s contract at Bayern expired next summer and he was supposedly available for £20m.
Speaking after his return to Dortmund was confirmed, Rummenigge told Bayern’s official website: “The negotiations were very fair and serious”.
“I think the transfer is a good solution for all parties. It’s never easy at a big club and it wasn’t easy for either me or Mario during my time here”, said the former Bayern coach.
Born and bred in the city, Reus spent ten years in Dortmund’s youth setup, but it took a move to Ahlen as a teenager to find his feet.
