Mario Maker update introduces mid-level checkpoints
Nintendo has announced Super Mario Maker will be receiving an update next week that will offer the ability to add mid-level checkpoints to levels as well as the addition of Course World categories.
When the patch arrives early next month, you’ll be able to shake an arrow to turn it into a checkpoint flag, and place it in the levels you make. Nintendo recently noted that a new update will roll out next week, which will feature new additions to “Super Mario Maker”. In other words, if a player is regular (small) Mario and they open the power up, it’s a simple Super Mushroom.
Surprisingly, Super Mario Maker seemed to suffer on home soil, with only 39 million of those global sales coming out of Japan.
Meanwhile, Famitsu reports that 3.2 million courses have been made within Super Mario Maker since launch.
Next, we have status dependent power-ups.
And on November 4, the game is getting a major update with tons of great new stuff. Unsurprisingly, Nintendo is going to capitalize on that momentum with incoming updates – and one of the latest will bring in a much-requested change to level creation. These come from worldwide special events hosted by Nintendo, like the Facebook Hackathon.
Many creators use the tools included in Super Mario Maker to build levels that are, simply put, sadistic.
The Nintendo Direct became a staple for the company a few years ago as the method of making big announcements for games, while also showing off upcoming releases.
Shortly after the update goes live, the level featured in the final round of Penny Arcade Expo’s Omegathon event will also be available to play.
Event Courses are now part of the fun.
