Mario will kart you around in Google Maps update
To have Mario lead you on your journeys using Google Maps, you will need to make sure that you have the most up-to-date version of the app. Google Maps is rolling out the Easter Egg on Friday and it will be live for a week. A dialog box will then appear to let you switch on Mario time.
Tomorrow is March 10, and you know what that means!
As soon as that is enabled, you will notice that the navigation arrow has morphed into Mario.
Google Maps even featured Ms. Pac-Man past year for April Fools’ Day.
This is pretty cool. And even though we don’t know what all of this year’s festivities and tributes will be, we’re pretty sure we can declare a victor for the best homage to the most famous red hat-wearing plumber ever-all of us.
“Just do not forget to practise safe driving on the road”, Google Maps’ official blog says. Once this is done, you’ll get a prompt to enable “Mario Time”. Nintendo’s beloved red-capped plumber has started cropping up in Google Maps. Additionally, you can share screenshots and location info with others which will have the hashtag #MarioMaps added to them, just don’t share personal info, mmkay? Either way, it’s a nice add-on that Google has given us and we’re all going to enjoy it and probably drive around random places just to see Mario drive with us.
Outside of serving as a simple position marker, Mario himself doesn’t really change anything about Google Maps.
