Mark Dantonio Comments On Idea Of MI State’s Season Being Over After
That’s the most important lesson the Spartans can take from their lost week in Lincoln. For a year we’ve avoided that aspect of losing. “Don’t like it. Sort of eats at you”.
Dantonio was, of course, talking about the 42-39 loss to Wisconsin in the inaugural conference title game when a roughing the punter call in the final minutes wiped out Keshawn Martin’s punt return to inside the Badgers’ 5-yard line. But throughout the past years, and how we’ve grown as a team, you’re not going to see us dwell on that and it’s not going to affect us in the next couple games.
“He’s got to come out and perform”, Dantonio said of Hicks. “We face ourselves with another challenge”. “We won’t be able to extend our season with the bowl opportunity, but as I told the guys, this is also the start for young players”. The Owls won just nine games in 2014-15 but return 72 percent of their scoring and will be looking to make a step forward in their second year under coach Michael Curry.TV: 7 p.m. ET, ESPN3ABOUT FLORIDA ATLANTIC (2014-15: 9-20): The backcourt will be key for the Owls this season with Marquan Botley returning as the team’s leading scorer (13.5 points per game) and assist man (3.9).
“As I said, I guess we’re pretty spoiled around here at this point. But that’s a good thing”, said Dantonio.
“We need to continue to improve the consistency of our possession passing game – we just haven’t been as consistent in our base pass and attack with making the right decisions on the right kind of footballs”. There’s a lot to play for. “Knowing how they’re coached, I would anticipate the first being the case”. There was a Cotton Bowl shirt. We’re starting to get the points back up. It’s not good enough for us. You have to reach higher. “That’s what this program should try and do”.
Carter also ranks third in the Big Ten with 5.7 solo stops per game, while Sean Davis is second in the category with 5.8/g. While the preseason triple-double was great, only three MI State players (Magic Johnson, Draymond Green and Charlie Bell) have ever achieved the feat in a regular-season game and Valentine has made it a goal for the upcoming season.
MI State, meanwhile, is still probably trying to get in the NCAA Tournament. It was over well before the Big Ten stumbled over itself in finding the right explanation for the wrong rule interpretation. That defeat had similar ramifications as the loss to Nebraska.
The week before MI State visited Maryland last November, the Spartans were beaten by Ohio State, 49-37, in prime time. Those six teams now have a cumulative record of 48-8.
With Clemson seemingly as a lock, baring an upset, and Alabama appearing as they will waltz in too – although we should never overlook the iron bowl against Auburn – that would leave two spots for the Big-12 winner, Pac-12 winner, Big Ten winner and Notre Dame. It’s not a good chance, but there’s a chance. “Now, the rest of the season, we plan on doing it”, safety Montae Nicholson said. “There’s a few things I can control, and I’ve learned to deal with that, do my best”. What happened to MI State against Nebraska was inevitable given how many other times it has dodged bullets in close games.
