Mark Hamill cautions Star Wars fans against buying fake autographs
“That’s my old “M”, which I changed over the years”.
He plays one of the most popular movie characters ever, so it’s no surprise that Mark Hamill’s signature is worth a pretty penny.
So says Luke Skywalker himself, with Star Wars actor Mark Hamill taking to Twitter to warn fans against shelling out big bucks for autographed photos and merchandise supposedly bearing his signature that he says are fakes. When asked why he was going out of his way, Hamill’s response was simple: “Because I owe it to all true fans to protect them from being victimized by dishonest dealers”.
While the actor no doubt caused some sorrow among Star Wars fans whose prized autographs turned out to be duds, he also confirmed that he had indeed signed some of the merchandise being tweeted to him. Hamill wrote that the fan he signed them for wanted “extreme irreverence” and he was glad to oblige.
“He’s warning them on Twitter and encouraging people to double check before buying anything without confirming that it’s real, even starting the hashtags “#BeattheDealers” and “FansRule” to drive home the message. “Never thought they’d go public”, he added.
If you have a certain Jedi Knight’s signature, drop him a tweet where the authenticity begins.
