Mark Richt Still Undecided in Georgia’s Quarterback Battle
“We’ve had 17 or 18 practices, and we’ve got to start making some judgments by how they’ve performed to this point”.
Richt says there is still no front-runner in the battle between redshirt sophomore Brice Ramsey, junior Greyson Lambert and junior Faton Bauta.
The good news is that Bulldogs offensive lineman Kolton Houston took a much more positive view of Scott-Wesley’s situation, saying the senior from Camilla, Ga., had been running on the sidelines and spending time on a stationary bike. “I’m a patient guy, but the clock is ticking”.
The Bulldogs are 13 days away from opening in Sanford Stadium against Louisiana-Monroe, a game that will have a noon kickoff and be televised by the SEC Network. He said he and the coaches would continue to watch how they all play. Ramsey was the backup a year ago behind Hutson Mason, while Lambert is a transfer from Virginia. “It might be the first guy that goes in plays his tail off and we have peace then. It may be that doesn’t happen and we give another guy a chance”.
Richt said he’s starting to think the quarterback battle will extend into the season.
Georgia receiver Justin Scott-Wesley was back on the practice field Monday, but in a role different from what he’d be doing as a player.
“I’d rather not rotate, but we did it in 2001 with (David) Greene and (Cory) Phillips, and David came out and played well and solidified the position”, Richt added. “I’d like to know and have some peace about it; when I make a huge decision, I like to have peace, and I don’t have in that right now”, Bulldog head coach Mark Richt stated.
