Mark Warburton agrees a one year extension to Rangers contract
Warburton, who led Rangers to the Scottish Championship title, a Petrofac Cup Final victory and a Scottish Cup Final place – where they were beaten by Hibernian – encountered a delay in contract negotiations with the club, but according to the Englishman this was simply due to him being away on holiday and not issues over finances.
Mark Warburton will continue as Rangers manager through to the end of the 2018-19 season after agreeing a contract extension, he revealed on Monday.
The 21-year-old is set for a new adventure after struggling for first team football at parent club Leicester City.
“Kenny Miller said a few weeks ago the best signing this club could make would be the gaffer and Davie”, he told the Evening Times.
Wallace, the Tynecastle FC manager who was speaking yesterday at the launch of the capital club’s new Kimberley Watson Packaging-sponsored strips, believes a new-found strength in depth will help Rangers in the Premiership. David and myself will sign another year to our contracts. “It was no more than that”.
‘I think the manager was always going to. It’s inevitable that memories return to their last appearance in Motherwell when we avoided relegation and delayed their promotion by a year. We want to get off to a good start, send the fans home happy and move forward from there. It is nice combination to have.
Warburton added: “This is a special football club with passionate supporters and the football department will continue to work hard to build on the solid foundations laid down last season”. Competing at the highest level is the least our fans deserve and we look forward to playing at a packed Ibrox.
He said: “We want to put a marker down on the first day, we want to hit the ground running”.
“I thank the Rangers board for again backing my player acquisition plan and we are all eagerly anticipating the start of 2016-17”.
