Marsha Johnson murder suspects linked to Tennessee poultry plant and robbery
Officials with St. George Police Department say they are in contact with Covington police in regards to the investigation.
Police appear confident that the two suspects who ran over and killed a woman at Walmart this week were likely the suspects in an armed robbery of another elderly woman last week in SC and have been linked to a poultry plant in Tennessee.
Police said the passenger has reddish-brown dyed hair.
“We feel really good about the suspects in SC because of the physical descriptions, the vehicle description, and the close proximity to I-20”, says Treadwell.
The surveillance video shows the suspect, described as a large Hispanic man, grabbing 65-year-old Martha Johnson’s purse, sending her to the ground. He proceeded to drive over the victim and had to back up because he could not get his vehicle out, ‘ Capt. Craig Treadwell of the Covington Police Department said.
Police said a witness tried to block the driver in, smashing his door, but that did not stop him.
The suspects fled the scene in a mid-to-late 1990s silver or grey Honda with stock wheel covers and out of state tags, according to search flyers.
Authorities say there is extensive damage to the vehicle’s driver side with possible blue paint transfer.
‘We are seeking all available help from the public.
The victim’s niece said the man did not have to take a thing. She held on to her purse, but the male started pulling her, dragging her on the ground. He said Johnson’s bank had been alerted of the robbery and it had been monitoring activity on her account.
‘This is bad. I can’t believe people do something like that, you know. For a purse for a purse, it’s bad, ‘ Wade Johnson said. Police tell CBS46 they’re hoping to announce even more leads in the case Thursday.
The male and his female companion are still on the loose, and Atlanta Crime Stoppers is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to their arrest.
