‘Martian,’ ‘Revenant’ get awards boost with top Golden Globes wins
In recent years the Globes have picked many films that do not end up winning the Oscar.
Will this Golden Globe finally turn into a Best Actor Oscar for the star?
While Gaga reigned supreme among the most talked about moments, Leonardo DiCaprio, who generated the second most buzz for his best actor award for The Revenant, and in the third spot, Mr Robot for its best TV drama award.
Matt Damon was named best actor (comedy or musical) for The Martian, which also won best picture (comedy or musical) and best director (comedy or musical) despite being neither a comedy nor a musical. Though the film is already a massive box-office hit with almost $600 million in worldwide receipts, the DVD version is being released Tuesday.
Other nominees in the Globes’ top two categories this year are the dramas “Carol” and “Room”, and “Joy”, “Spy” and “Trainwreck” in the comedy category.
When the Oscar nominations are announced on Thursday, industry experts will be eager to see whether the film nabs a nomination aside from editing and visual effects.
That didn’t stop Winslet from an exuberant acceptance speech, nor did it mute early winners Rachel Bloom (best actress in a TV series comedy for “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend”) and Maura Tierney (best actress in a series, limited series or TV movie for “The Affair”). If you had better things to do than watch actors get awkwardly played off stage you probably missed it, but that doesn’t mean you don’t want to know who won… or who got burned the most.
Apparently some people at Sunday night’s Golden Globes ceremony won awards.
His swipe at Penn, who was not in attendance, came shortly after.
“I’m going to try not to get emotional, because I am the sum total of everyone I’ve ever met and I’m lucky to absorb some of it”, Stallone told the star-studded event, before thanking his wife and three daughters for their support.
Kate Winslet won the Golden Globe for best supporting actress for her role in Steve Jobs, but the Hollywood Reporter predicts Vikander will win the Oscar for her role in the Danish Girl.

The Globes were also willing to surprise in many categories including Best Screenplay as they gave “Steve Jobs” the award. Oops, Foxx mock-apologized, the actual victor was Ennio Morricone for “The Hateful Eight”.
