Martin O’Neill says he has no interest in the Leicester job
Leicester manager Claudio Ranieri applauds the fans after the Champions League round of 16 soccer match between Sevilla and Leicester City.
In a awful title defense, the team is one point and one place above the relegation zone and in serious danger of losing its status in the world’s most lucrative league.
The rumour mills are already spinning at full speed and ex-Manchester City and Inter Milan boss Roberto Mancini is the early bookmakers’ favourites to replace Ranieri at the club. “There was a lot of frustration because of the results but he (Ranieri) had not lost the dressing room”. “If some of the stories I’m reading are true, or have just a little bit of truth, it’s hard to find words to justify that”, Mourinho said.
“Please respect my decision”.
However, judging by the team’s performance this season, this would arguably be a good thing. “We’ve got a job to do”.
“It is very sad”. They are very hurt and very frustrated.
“I don’t believe the players were actively working against him, as I’ve never seen any player do that”, he added.
“Leicester made history two years in a row, one year because they did the most lovely thing in the Premier League and in football history”. My relationship with Claudio has been fine all along.
But Vardy has reacted angrily to those claims and insisted the only reason it has taken him so long to thank his former manager publicly is down to the fact he struggled to articulate his true feelings. “Everything is changing around and we must not be afraid to make people realise where we are in the industry we are in”. “We have done our best as a management”, he said in a statement before closing his account on the site. “I hope it will happen again, but it will be very hard”. “His tone was fine”. It’s just so odd to see a team go from contender to near relegation, with some feeling what was accomplished previous year was enough for Ranieri to keep his job. “It won’t be easy but I am ready to take this risk if it means we won the league”. I arrived home and the director of football told me what was happening and asked me to be caretaker for the next game. But what helped me was the knowledge the Chelsea supporters remain grateful for what I did for the club and I am sure that will help Claudio, too. Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live on Sunday morning, the Derry native said he “enjoying the job [with Ireland] at this moment”. Does it faze me? No.
