Marvel Boss Kevin Feige Says ‘Captain America: Civil War’ Plot Is ‘Relatively
Feige said the studio is still deciding whether Wasp is going to be seen in action in a solo “Ant-Man” film or as a more impactful character in Marvel’s future films.
The Marvel head also mentioned that the studio executives and producers do not want Wasp to become “moment amongst moments”, while it would be interesting to see another female superhero along with Scott Lang. Spoilers for Ant-Man follow because seriously go see it already.
“It’s going to be certainly a part of our Phase 3”, says Feige, referring to the upcoming slate of Marvel films beginning with Captain America: Civil War. However, Paul Rudd and Adam McKay put more emphasis on Janet and the Wasp when they rewrote Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish’s original script, as director Peyton Reed told Aint It Cool News. We needed to figure out how she could be a part of the movie in an organic way, in a way that didn’t sell out her character, but in a way that strengthened things. I don’t really know where it could fit in sooner than that.
Therefore, if the Wasp is still a part of Phase 3, it will have to be in non Ant-Man movies – which may well be possible. During the Los Angeles press day for Ant-Man that was held earlier this month, I had the wonderful opportunity to sit down for a one-on-one interview with the Marvel Cinematic Universes Hope Van Dyne, and it was while diving into spoiler territory that Lily revealed her personal thoughts about whether or not her on-screen mother is actually still alive. “Where exactly in phase three I’m not sure, but it won’t be in Civil War“.
“‘Civil War” is a relatively simple story. Sadly, Hank and Hope lost contact with Janet forever when she shrunk herself down too much and entered the Quantum Realm another dimension where space and time are meaningless.
As well as talking about the excitement at the possibility of getting to play The Wasp in future Marvel movies, Evangeline Lilly also went on to talk about her contract with Marvel.
Despite a disheartening answer from Feige, included in the report are snippets of details which hinted on The Wasp’s future.
