Marvel reveals Captain Marvel first-look photos
Larson is also set to reprise her role of Danvers in the yet-untitled Avengers 4, probably to defeat Thanos, notes Entertainment Weekly. The only other female-led project that in the works is the long-awaited Black Widow film starring Scarlett Johansson with Cate Shortland directing the film, but no other projects have been announced yet.
In the meantime, we will receive a “Captain Marvel” film, which will focus on Air Force pilot Carol Danvers ( Brie Larson) who becomes an intergalactic hero.
Lynch will play Maria Rambeau, described as “one among Carol’s oldest chums”. She said Captain Marvel has every element in full be it amusing, emotional or action.
Starforce, the Kree Empire’s crack fighting unit, made their debut in Avengers more than a quarter-century ago but have mostly flown relatively low on the radar in the comics. According to Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, Marvel has plans for more movies focused on women superheroes.
Also seen in the photos are the introduction of the Skrull alien race.
Much like Spider-Man Homecoming we’re introduced to Carol Danvers already infused with her Kree abilities and a member of a Kree military strike team called Starforce, headed up by Jude Law.
During an interview with EW, the actress offered some in-depth explanation of her character in the film. “She is thrown into many a situation in this movie that she’s never been a part of, never seen, never experienced – and she just learns it, immediately”. And she’s got a formidable enemy in the form of the Skrulls – the notorious Marvel baddies made all the more risky by their shape-shifting abilities. “And those two sides warring against each other is what makes her her”.
Because the film takes place in the 90s (before Iron Man is around or Captain America has been thawed out), we’ll get the chance to see some iconic Marvel characters when they were younger.
One of the bigger reveals, though, is the first look at the Skrulls. However, the immediacy may even be counted as a flaw in her character, she adds.
Director Anna Boden expands on that. I looked down at her whole name (Carol Susan Jane Danvers) and that was amusing to me. And she can be headstrong and reckless and doesn’t always make the flawless decisions for herself.
EW says it’ll be unveiling exclusive pics, tidbits and more throughout the week.
