Marvel’s Jessica Jones moves up
Photos emerging from the NY set have showcased a sharp-suited Mike Colter, and today the studio has welcomed a newcomer to the project in the form of Sonia Braga.
Dawson makes an appearance in Marvel’s Jessica Jones, now streaming on Netflix, but will have a larger role in the Luke Cage story line.
Dawson’s Claire is slated to have an important role in “Luke Cage”, so it stands to reason that Braga, a multiple Emmy and Golden Globe award nominee, could also play a pivotal character.
“A character as strong as Claire needs an equally powerful mother, and with Sonia we found the ideal actress to deliver the stellar performance we needed”, says executive producer, Jeph Loeb.
Jessica Jones is based on the character of the same name from Marvel comic book series who gets exposed to radioactive chemicals and gains super strength with which she can lift cars and trucks and as well nearly fly over buildings. With such a line-up of actors, the series is shaping up to be a series to watch out for, according to EP Coker. “In ‘Marvel’s Luke Cage, ‘ fans will now get a chance to see where Claire got the fire we love her for [on the TV series]”. The series is darker narrative than other Marvel superhero series and deals with domestic and sexual abuse as well addiction of Jones and how she overcomes all that. It’s nice to use that show as a springboard into the next entry in the Netflix – Marvel universe … though it is at the same time somewhat odd to be watching him here with the knowledge that he is not going to be a part of the series forever.
