Marvel Serves Star-Studded Surprises At Comic-Con For New Film Slate
“Based in New York City’s Greenwich Village, Doctor Strange must act as an intermediary between the real world and what lies beyond, utilising a vast array of metaphysical abilities and artifacts to protect the Marvel cinematic universe“.
The upcoming film, starring Ben Affleck as Batman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, and Henry Cavill as Superman all showed up to promote the film, which appears to have a much lighter take on the mashup. This time she didn’t have to share the spotlight with Warner Bros.’ caped crusaders.
It is possible that the new Suicide Squad movie is going to reveal more about the DC Universe films to come, and viewers will only have to wait until August 5 to see that.
Whose footage impressed the most?
Comic-Con was treated to a first look at Spider-Man: Homecoming which sees British actor Tom Holland as Peter Parker. Marvel Studios honcho Kevin Feige, a veritable Comic-Con celebrity in his own right, earned raucous cheers as he strolled onto the Hall H stage Saturday night.
Kurt Russell, also present for the panel, was confirmed as Star Lord’s (Pratt) father in a newly release trailer, resulting in a resounding cheer from the audience.
They’ll be joined by actresses Lupita Nyong’o and Danai Gurira, who will be part of Black Panther’s super-strong group of female bodyguards.
“Mordo’s not just a villain, he’s very ambiguous”, actor Chiwetel Ejiofor, who plays the character, said.
Benedict Cumberbatch entered amid a cloud of fog to show a scene from Scott Derrickson’s Doctor Strange, out on Nov 4, in which neurosurgeon Stephen Strange, who lost the use of his hands in an accident, meets the Ancient One to harness the mysterious world of magic and alternate dimensions.
Marvel closed things out on a high note, however, with an obligatory all-Marvel photo, including the new Captain Marvel herself – Oscar-winner Brie Larson, who was greeted with a rapturous standing ovation. Can I go and talk to them?’
In the comics, the Ancient One is an Asian man with a big beard, but Swinton has defended the movie against claims that Marvel have “whitewashed” the story. “Until we really ask why is that acceptable, and why is it that you don’t want a much more real experience?”
And she is certainly not the last new face we will see before Infinity War arrives (and pulls Guardians out of its little corner), though Feige wouldn’t say exactly who those faces will be.
