Maryland man who visited sick children as Batman dies in vehicle crash
While he was checking the engine, a Toyota Camry struck Lenny’s famous Lamborghini.
The Route 29 Batman, who became a viral sensation thanks to a dash cam video of an encounter with the police, died Sunday after being struck by a auto.
Leonard Robinson, 51, of Ownings Mill, Md., apparently had an engine problem with his custom-made (batmobile) while traveling on Interstate 70 near Hagerstown. Maryland State Police said troopers responded to the scene around 10:30 p.m.to find a vehicle had hit and killed Robinson, who’d tried to pull over to the side but was partially in the fast lane.
“He made so many kids so happy”, said Stongin.
According to police, the driver of the Camry was not injured in the crash that occurred in Big Pool, Maryland.
In 2012, Robinson was pulled over for not having a proper licence plate, but by the end of the video, the officers are seen shaking his hand and taking pictures of him next to the Lamborghini. He then bought the batman costume for $US5,000 and spent $US25,000 a year on toys and memorabilia that he handed out to children in hospitals, the Washington Post reported in 2012.
Since then, Robinson took it upon himself to visit sick children across the country dressed as Batman, bringing with him action figures, and Batman paraphernalia to lift sick children’s spirits.
