Maryland Mom Held on $500K After Infant Found on Roadside
A mother is under arrest after a baby was found abandoned on the side in Maryland over the weekend.
“[I] was just thinking that this is what the world has coming to, they’re not as really concerned as we should be”, Showell said.
The baby was on the side of the road for about an hour before the passerby took her in, police say.
Police say when the woman called, she claimed that the infant’s father was supposed to have the child. It is unknown if the little girl will be sent to live with family members or if she will be put up for adoption pending the outcome of her mother’s case.
The baby girl was found buckled into an infant auto seat and appeared to be unharmed.
“If a auto had came up the road, it sure would’ve ran over it”, added neighbour Alice Burton.
“The baby just cried so hard”, Burton added.
Police say a resident of Pasadena, about 20 miles south of Baltimore, found the infant in a scuffed carrier before midnight Saturday and called police. She was the one to make the original call to 911.
“We were inundated with requests to adopt this child [Sunday]”, Anne Arundel County Police Lieutenant T.J.
The baby was treated for dehydration before she was released to the Department of Child Protective Services, where she remains at this time.
Authorities say the mother of a 6-week-old old baby girl left her daughter on the side of the road in Pasadena, Maryland, on July 4. “That may have been why this woman contacted police”, he said.
After sharing the results of the investigation with the Anne Arundel County State’s Attorney’s Office, Sandra Clara McClary was charged with child neglect and reckless endangerment.
During the investigation officers obtained a partial tag of a vehicle located in the area where the child was located.
“It’s important for people to understand the laws associated with not being able to take care of your child”, he said.
Her baby, who is between two and three months old, was discovered by the bishop of a nearby church. “End of story. So it would be serious charges if we got to a point where we found out that someone did that on goal”.
Baby formula was still visible on the road Sunday afternoon.
