Maryland’s Trimble selected Big Ten Preseason Player of Year

Mitchell became the first freshman to ever lead the nation in scoring previous year, and was the only player in the country to score 800 points.
Theriot and Nebraska coach Connie Yori will be in the Chicago area Thursday morning for Big Ten media day. Disterhoft was voted to the coaches’ preseason squad, while Michigan State’s Tori Jankoska was voted to the media’s list.
Ohio State’s Kelsey Mitchell was selected Big Ten women’s Preseason Player of the Year, and Maryland was picked as the conference favorite.
Theriot, a senior point guard from Middleburg Heights, Ohio, was one of nine players to earn recognition from both the coaches and media on their 10-player teams. Walker- Kimbrough was named to the First Team by both the coaches and the media panel.
Jones was named to the media panel’s Second Team and the coaches’ First Team.
Last season, Michigan State was 16-15 overall and 7-11 in Big Ten action after an injury-plagued 2014-15 season.
Banham, who received a medical hardship waiver to play another year, was the only University of Minnesota player on the all-conference preseason teams.
