Mass shooting reported in California
It was confirmed that there was an active shooter, says NBC News on Tuesday afternoon.
Riverside police dispatchers broadcast a general advisory that the suspects involved in the shootings in San Bernardino may have fled in a black GMC Yukon, heading northbound on Waterman Avenue.
The Los Angeles Times reported that the shooting took place at about 11am at a social service office in San Bernardino.
In a tweet early on, the San Bernardino Fire Department said it was responding to reports of 20 victims. The situation became confusing when the fire alarm went off. “Everyone was confused”, he said, relating his wife’s account.
Update: 3:10 p.m.
According to police, 14 people were killed and 17 others were injured as the death toll was expected to be moving upwards. She says the hospital expects to get three more patients. In light of this mass shooting, the center may be reconsidering their tactics. She believes they were wearing “military-style” attire.
Ambulances and law enforcement vehicles are at the scene.
San Bernardino Mayor R. Carey Davis said in a statement that the community “experienced severe loss and severe shock” Wednesday. A group of people were standing outside in the parking lot with their hands raised, then walked forward toward the officers. They are still on the run, with police in pursuit.
San Bernardino Police Chief Jarrod Burguan said a motive wasn’t yet clear, but that the shooters “were on a mission” and “came in with a objective”.
One man received a text from his daughter that said she was hiding inside the building where she works. He says she wrote: “People shot”.
“People shot. In the office waiting for cops”.
“Well, it’s real”, Vong texted the husband, adding that she and her colleagues have been “locked up in the office”.
Seventeen others were wounded after gunfire erupted at a holiday party at a social services agency, sparking an intense manhunt for up to three suspects.
