Massive fire breaks out in Mumbai’s Kandivali following explosion of 25-30
Deputy Chief Fire Official P S Rahangdale said that at least 16 fire engines, 12 water tankers, five fire brigade officials along with jawans have been rushed to the spot to douse the flames. Around a 1,000 homes were also destroyed in the fire that is believed to have triggered a series of gas cylinder explosions. According to reports the fire broke out following multiple explosions. A child, reportedly under 10 years, was declared dead on arrival by the medical staff.
The fire station categorised the fire accident as a category two and stated that there could be lot of damage as the fire is in a residential area. Speaking to Firstpost, a fire brigade official said that a category two fire is one in which more than 15 fire tenders are sent to control the blaze.
The deceased person was charred beyond recognition and has not been identified yet but the injured have been admitted to nearby Shatabdi hospital, DCP Dhananjay Kulkarni said.
Massive plumes of smoke were blowing out of the building, said eye witnesses.
The fire was allegedly caused due to the explosion of 25-30 cylinders in the area. “The area is an uphill colony with narrow lanes”.
Traffic jam has been reported from the area, with fire tenders and other emergency vehicles parked in the narrow lanes leading to the location.
