Massive Newsreel Archives of AP, Movietone Added to YouTube
Perhaps the England team heading to Edgbaston could take inspiration from their illustrious predecessors?
The Associated Press and British Movietone are putting their extensive archives of newsreels on YouTube, ABC News reports.
AP said that more than 550,000 videos dating back to 1895 will be available on the video sharing platform, with a wide range being covered including fashion, sports, political upheaval and entertainment. Some examples include video from the San Francisco natural disaster in 1906, the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941 and Marilyn Monroe in London in the 1950s.

Eventually, AP may look to monetise the archive video collection on YouTube with ads, Lindsey said.
“At AP we are always astonished at the sheer breadth of footage that we have access to, and the upload to YouTube means that, for the first time, the public can enjoy some of the oldest and most remarkable moments in history”.
