Mata frustrated with Chelsea draw
A new head coach will be at Stamford Bridge next season after interim manager Hiddink’s tenure ends, but the next incumbent is unlikely to oversee a 14th successive season of Champions League football, according to the Dutchman.
Chelsea remains in the lower reaches of the standings – 13th – closer to the relegation zone than its usual place among the top four elite.
Chelsea lost defender Kurt Zouma in the 59th minute to a nasty looking leg injury and just two minutes later Jesse Lingard looked to have sealed all three points for the visitors in the 61st minute.
Cameron Borthwick-Jackson s cross was helped on by Wayne Rooney and Lingard took a touch before slamming in his second goal in two games.
Manchester United boss Luis van Gaal has suggested that young Brazilian playmaker Andreas Pereira maybe a better option to play behind the strikers than Spanish global Juan Mata.
Costa headed over the bar from close range in the closing stages, but it did not prove too costly as he made amends in the dying stages, taking advantage of a slip in the United defence to tap into an empty net. “We played like we played today but we are not making the gap smaller (on the Champions League places)”, he said.
The 16-year-old Portuguese midfielder is frustrated with the lack of chances at Chelsea and believes that he can progress with a move to Old Trafford. A fantastic cross also. “We’re not giving anything up just yet”.
On the south-coast, though, Arsenal emerged from its January slump. “They suddenly become the favourite in the Premier League and it makes our game a big game”.
Mata, 27, highlighted the performances of both teams and said it was delightful for supporters, confirming that both teams played for the three points, but neither could snatch a decisive win. The 35-year-old has started the majority of games this season, playing every game since the departure of Jose Mourinho. Coming up for Arsenal next Sunday is a home match against Leicester, the surprise leader which sent Manchester City tumbling to fourth by winning their encounter 3-1 on Saturday. The point leaves the Blues in 13th, with United now 10 games without a win over their rivals.
