While the early goal from Wolfsburg shocked the home fans, Manchester United created a hatful of chances in the first half, before Mata converted a penalty to level the scores.
Chris Smalling and Daley Blind are the centre-backs again, with David de Gea unmoved between the sticks.
The Red Devils were beaten by PSV Eindhoven in their opening group match, while a goal from Julian Draxler saw the German side edge to a narrow win over CSKA Moscow.
Sports Mole looks ahead to the Champions League meeting between Manchester United and Wolfsburg at Old Trafford. It was a big game against a big team from Europe and we are very happy to play in this stage of football and we want to go through to keep our dream alive. We want to see how far we can go.
Juan Mata though is made of sterner stuff than giving it all up, his transformation started under Louis van Gaal and his best performance last season came against Liverpool where he scored a couple of cracking goals, one thanks to a brilliant run while another was an out of this world finish.
Mata though has been playing out of his skin since the start of the season and now has four goals and four assist to his name for the team.
Despite their obvious improvement, the former Southampton man feels his side can still get even better.
The on shining light for Mata would be the fact that he is getting better as the games go by and come the end of the season, he could be giving United a lot more and pushing them in the right direction.
“Yeah it was a big game and a game where I and we can improve”. In the last few weeks I don’t hear this anymore, they don’t complain about the style of play or anything and that is because we have improved.
“I help him with advice, demands, training sessions, and showing images to improve him, but he has to be open and he has to perform on the pitch”.
Schneiderlin will be hoping to continue in the starting line-up when Manchester United travel to London to take on Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
