Match Reports: Bournemouth 1-1 Watford
Watford head coach Quique Flores believes that his side performed well in their 1-1 Premier League draw with Bournemouth at Dean Court.
Opposing keeper Heurelho Gomes rubbed salt into the wound, spectacularly clawing defender Steve Cook’s 20-yard bicycle kick out of the top corner during the latter stages before denying Cherries goalscorer Glenn Murray from the penalty spot.
Simon Francis reached the byline and laid the ball back to Matt Ritchie, who swung it in just as Murray tip-toed in behind a leaden-footed Hornets defence to guide his header home.
“The second half the same, we start really well and dominate the first 25 minutes or so”.
But Prodl’s misjudgment was nothing compared to the blunder by Boruc that led to the equaliser on the stroke of half-time.
Instead, he rolled it to Odion Ighalo, who tapped it into an empty net.
Watford boss Quique Flores said: “We made high pressure on their keeper when he made his mistake”.
The error brought to mind Boruc’s mistake at Arsenal when he played for Southampton two years ago – on that occasion Oliver Giroud was the grateful beneficiary.
Given fresh belief by Boruc’s howler, Watford renewed the second half with greater vigour and after 52 minutes Ben Watson came close to giving then the lead with a half volley from 15 yards which deflected off the crossbar.
Anya was forced off with a knock on 72 minutes, and Bournemouth rallied as both sides had chances to win the game.
But the Cherries were just as keen to secure maximum points and it took two superb saves from Gomes in the final ten minutes to frustrate Eddie Howe’s side. Murray, though, was casual with his penalty and Gomes got down to save, meaning an eventful contest finished level.
The Brazilian was the hero as the visitors were lucky to leave the Vitality Stadium with a point to their name.
The Nigerian striker has so far banged in four of their five league goals this term and they will be seeking to snatch three points on the road after a fairly impressive start to life in the top flight that has left them in 13th place.
“It was a disappointing game in the end. Bournemouth had to win today, and Watford set up not to lose”.
