Matt Barnes, Derek Fisher Get Into Violent Scuffle Over Barnes’ Ex-Wife
According to the New York Post, Memphis Grizzlies forward Matt Barnes is not very happy with his former teammate/current New York Knicks head coach Derek Fisher.
Matt Barnes allegedly drove furiously 95 miles from the Memphis Grizzlies training camp in Santa Barbara with the alleged intent to “beat the s-t” out of Fisher at Govan’s home last weekend.
“We are aware and now gathering information regarding today’s report involving Matt Barnes”, the Grizzlies sent out in a statement.
“Barnes went insane. He got in his vehicle and went to the house and went after Fisher”, a source told The Post.
Barnes, said he then FaceTimed Carter to check on him, as the two boys were staying with Govan.
Fisher didn’t sport any visible bruises when he spoke with reporters before the Knicks’ preseason game on Wednesday.
Barnes and Fisher were teammates on the Los Angeles Lakers from 2010 through 2012. The couple were married back in 2012 and have 6-year-old twin boys together. Another source said Fisher left the altercation with just “a few scratches” and won’t press charges.
Beyond that, when asked whether he expected there to be any legal ramifications from the incident, Fisher said, “I guess we’ll see”.
The Post reported that Fisher, who started dating Govan, 29, “a few months” ago, filed for divorce from Candace, his wife of 10 years, in March. Govan is reportedly dating Barnes’ ex-teammate and now Knicks coach Derek Fisher. One source claimed that the fight was the reason Fisher missed practice on Monday. The pop star later went on to deny the relationship and even said that she had never met Barnes.
“I’ve been through a lot in life”, he said.
“I live 15 minutes away and I was going over to check on my kids because they seemed uncomfortable”, Barnes told ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne on Thursday.
