Matt Damon clarifies comments about gay actors
“And sexuality is a huge part of that”, he said.
“I don’t know why everyone gives out, and I don’t think it has anything to do with how I view you as an actor”.
In the same discussion, Damon said that good actors will never let people know about their lives, including sexuality meaning whether you are gay or straight.
But, as other websites like Mashable point out, his comments have been taken out of context and Damon stopped by “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” to address the Guardian interview. “And then it gets represented that that’s what you believe”, he added. “In the blogosphere, there’s no real penalty for just taking the ball and running with it”.
However, the actor made no apology during an appearance on Ellen DeGeneres’s United States daytime talk show on Monday, clarifying that he had not meant to come across as homophobic, but once again stressing that “actors are more effective when they’re a mystery”, reported The Guardian.
Brown stressed that it was important to choose a diverse directing team explaining: ‘I want to urge people to think about whoever this director is, the way they are going to treat the character of Harmony, her being a prostitute, the only black person being a hooker who gets hit by her white pimp’. Then watch this absolutely brilliant clip of Matt Damon and James Cordon acting out all of Matt’s films in just eight minutes, with a little help from a few awful props and brilliant wigs. “It’s one reason why sometimes, newcomers get a shot”. But his statements on the gay issue taken differently and it was said that the actor was talking about gay actors to not to disclose their identity to anyone.
Damon recently came under fire for an exchange during the premiere episode of the HBO docu-series “Project Greenlight“, where he interrupted a producer’s comments on diversity.
