Matt Flynn and Josh Johnson released by the New York Jets
The Eagles will finish off the 2015 pre-season against the New York Jets, Thursday, September 3, at Metlife Stadium.
The New York Jets released quarterback Matt Flynn and placed running back Stevan Ridley on the Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform List on Saturday. Flynn and Josh Johnson were competing with rookie Bryce Petty to backup Ryan Fitzpatrick.
You won’t regret it. While the Jets came away with the victory, neither Flynn nor Johnson was the game’s best QB.
Not to worry though. Flynn tweeted before posting a photo of the Bloody Mary he was getting ready to imbibe. But they made 19 cuts along with those moves to get to the 53-man roster limit.
Philadelphia -5 at New York Jets O/U 44.5 Recommendation: Philadelphia It’s not hard to make a case for the Eagles in any preseason game.
Flynn was picked up by the Jets after Geno Smith was injured (more like attacked by his own teammate) but was never in contention for a starting spot.
The Jets took a risk at quarterback in the 2013 opener, but it worked out for them.
The Jets could also wait until Week 2 to re-sign another veteran quarterback, thereby avoiding having to pay fully-guaranteed salaries.
Another long shot out of Carion, Howare was hoping to make the team as a special-teamer but it looks like the fullback/linebacker may not return.
Flynn again engineered a touchdown drive on his second turn, this one going 90 yards over 14 plays and 7:05 on the clock. He has played in 51 career games, including seven starts, six across both stints with the Packers, and one with the Oakland Raiders in 2013. The Jets have only five wideouts on their roster as of now – Brandon Marshall, Eric Decker, Quincy Enunwa, Jeremy Kerley and Devin Smith, still out with a rib injury suffered early in camp.
The 35-year-old Babin, the oldest player on the team, was projected as a backup.
