Matt Harvey, stuck in traffic, finally shows at Mets’ workout
Harvey has since blown past that total and is expected to be at full strength for Game 3 of the National League Division Series, Monday against the Dodgers at Citi Field (TBS).
New York Mets starting pitcher Matt Harvey pauses as he speaks to…
New York Mets general manager Sandy Alderson voiced displeasure Tuesday when pitcher Matt Harvey did not show up for the start of a mandatory workout. The last thing I ever want to do is not be with my team.
Harvey finished the season at 189 1/3 innings – 9 1/3 innings over the predetermined limit agent Scott Boras set for Harvey this season, including the playoffs. Harvey said he apologized to Alderson, manager Terry Collins, and his teammates.
Alderson says as far as he knows, Harvey is the only player expected at the workout who missed it. “Truly I just screwed up”.
“There’s not really anything else to say”, Harvey said. The 26-year-old right-hander subsequently apologized to his teammates. They know what happened and I told everybody and apologized to everybody, told them it’s not going to happen again. “There’s no excuse, I screwed up”.
“We’re rolling, we’re clicking… guys came in today, took care of business, did what they need to do to prepare for Friday”, Wright added, “and I’m happy with that”.
Collins has indicated that there will be discipline for Harvey, but that it will be handled in house. “The guys who are here had a great workout”, Wright said, per DiComo.
