Matt LeBlanc Is ‘Not Sure’ About ‘Top Gear’ Return
It seems that after 10 years playing best friends, a natural friendship just blossomed with LeBlanc saying, “I cannot see him for five years and then put me in a room with him and it’d be like I saw him yesterday”. We still short hand with one another.
Evans’ presenting style was heavily criticised by viewers and he chose to quit before series two.
It had been thought filming on the next series was due to start next month.
The BBC has said it has no plans to replace Evans when Top Gear returns for a 24th season.
But the American actor ended up being one of the sole positives from Top Gear’s first post-Clarkson-era series, which saw viewing figures tumbling from the outset. Chris Evans was certainly plugging him.
The BBC will need to move quickly to tie LeBlanc down.
In June, Marta Kauffman confirmed that a Friends reunion show starring Jennifer Aniston (as Rachel Green), Courtney Cox (as Monica Geller), Lisa Kudrow (as Phoebe Buffay), Matthew Perry (as Chandler Bing), David Schwimmer (as Ross Gellar) and Matt LeBlanc (as Joey Tribbiani) will “never happen”.
He added: “That show has a pretty broad demographic. Everybody can relate to an automobile”, he told the audience.
However, LeBlanc has now cast doubt on whether he will continue with the motoring series.
Evans said: “For me, he is the man”.
“The simple truth is he and “Top Gear” were made for each other,” he added.
“Not only does he eat, sleep, breathe and dream engines, propshafts and trail-braking, but the overwhelming quality that struck me about him is that he’s just such a pro”.
Promoting his new show Man With a Plan, the former Friends star said: “I’m not sure what’s happening with Top Gear just yet, but this is my priority”.
