Matthew Dellavedova to Bucks
Cleveland.com reported earlier this week that the Cavaliers wouldn’t match the Bucks’ offer sheet of four years, $38.5 million. Miralles played the 2015-16 season with Joventut Badalona of the Liga ACB in Spain, averaging 4.8 points, 3.8 rebounds and 0.9 assists over 31 games.
The Cavaliers will now use the traded player exception created by this swap to acquire Mike Dunleavy from Chicago.
As part of the deal, Milwaukee will send the draft rights to Albert Miralles to the Cavaliers.
Cavs General Manager David Griffin, who announced the trade Thursday from Cleveland Clinic Courts, wished “Delly” the best in his career.
Dellavedova earned cult status thanks to his no-nonsense style of play in Cleveland’s unsuccessful NBA Finals campaign against the Golden State Warriors in 2015, which they avenged this year. “Our coaches and his teammates will always appreciate his “all-in” approach to the game, as he was ready to contribute whenever his number was called”.
The Bucks had been high on Dellavedova for some time, supposedly sending scouts to Cleveland to watch the 6-foot-4 backup point guard during the playoffs, and they moved fast to get him.
Dellavedova isn’t going to bring much to the Bucks in the way of off-the-bounce playmaking, but that’s not to say he can’t make an impact on offense. Miralles now plays for Joventut Badalona in the Liga ACB.
Dellavedova (6-4, 200), who went undrafted out of St. Mary’s in 2013, played his first three National Basketball Association seasons with the Cavaliers. “I am looking forward to growing with this exciting, young team”, Dellavedova wrote via his official Twitter account.
