Mauricio Pochettino “angry, disappointed” as Tottenham Hotspur blow another lead
Tottenham striker Harry Kane, the breakthrough star of last season, is without a goal three games into the new campaign.
Pochettino is slowly but surely clearing the decks for new signings, with West Bromwich Albion striker Saido Berahino reportedly his main target. We deserved more again but it is a shame.
“I think he worked very hard and I am happy with his (Kane’s) performance”.
Yet, Pochettino’s decision to bring on the England under 19 worldwide towards the end of the game against the Foxes proved to be a masterstroke as the midfielder connected with Nacer Chadli’s chipped cross to bundle the ball home.
“We played very well tactically and I am very satisfied”.
Leicester City finds itself second in the league behind Manchester City after two games as it won its first matches in the league.
“Maybe it was a fair result because we made some mistakes”, said Pochettino.
“I see a lot of spirit in the team when we come back 25 seconds after conceding the goal”.
Spurs dominated possession, seeing more than 70 percent of the ball in the first half, but failed to create anything clear-cut, instead resorting to long-range potshots.
“We need to compete better to the end because against Stoke we conceded late also – two goals”.
The feelgood factor continues to build for Leicester, though, and Mahrez is emerging as one of the best attacking players in the league.
Leicester have 32 victories in their previous 93 meetings with Tottenham Hotspur.
The lead, however, lasted 90 seconds before the impressive Riyad Mahrez equalised with a superb curling effort. “It was an outstanding goal and Riyad Mahrez is a very good player“.
They could have been awarded a penalty when Jan Vertonghen appeared to foul Mahrez in the box but nothing was given. I think tomorrow, he’ll be fine for the training session’.
Of course it is just two games into the season, but the signs do look promising for Leicester, and at this early stage it could be suggested that they could well be this season’s Southampton. The confidence emanating from the team is an ominous sign for their rivals and suggests they mean business – regardless of how long they can keep up their wonderful run of nine wins from 11 league games since March.
“The match was tactical, but there were also some good chances for them and for us”. You know the sport – you can win, you can lose or you can draw, but after the match, I want to say everything we did was good.
