Mavs offer Harrison Barnes 4-year, $95M contract
The lineup is similar to last season, when Dallas was the sixth seed in the Western Conference with a 42-40 record, and lost to Durant and Oklahoma City in five games in the first round. But signing Durant means sacrificing a lot of the depth that helped the team become one of the best in the league, and Speights could join Bogut and Ezeli as a cap casualty.
Dellavedova’s days at the Cavaliers are also over with the National Basketball Association champions deciding on Monday not to match the Milwaukee Bucks’ four-year, $US38.5 million offer. It was uncertain if there was anything else coming to the Mavericks in the deal.
Bogut makes $11 million, and the Warriors were likely going to have to trade either Bogut or Andre Iguodala to free up enough space to sign Durant. After agreeing to sign with the Golden State Warriors, the landscape of the league has changed. According to the Associated Press, the Dallas Mavericks intend on offering Barnes a 4-year deal worth $95 million. They were the first to show him the love with the monster contract, plus they have a starting spot waiting for him. You guys have been rockin with the team for decades before we got there so it was rewarding to bring a championship to the Bay.
In four seasons in Golden State, Barnes averaged 10.1 points per game, 4.6 rebounds and shot 44.6 percent from the field. The Warriors can match offers to keep him. However, he moved into a bench role the next season following the addition of free agent Andre Iguodala. The Mavericks whiffed on some of the biggest free agents this year including center Hassan Whiteside, but feel Barnes, who disappeared in this year’s NBA Finals, could be a key cog moving forward.
After whiffing on both of their major free agent targets, the Dallas Mavericks are finally starting to make moves.
At the minimum, the Mavs know they are getting a pro in Barnes who can be part of the post-Dirk Nowitzki core.
