Mayweather Promotions CEO: Conor McGregor’s boxing license means nothing

The news was confirmed to ESPN last night by McGregor’s agent, Audie Attar and by the California State Athletic Commission.

News that McGregor has secured a boxing license in California has sparked a fresh round of speculation over a possible showdown with Mayweather, with both camps eager to fan the flames of publicity in recent days.

And after every threat to leave in the past has ended with him signing on for another UFC bout, it will be hard to see this latest move as anything but a maneuver to wrestle more leverage from that organisation. “It’s not like all of a sudden he sucks because he got knocked out by Conor McGregor”. UFC president White since has stated that McGregor won’t fight until May.

For the better part of a year, McGregor has taken shots at Mayweather in interviews and on social media. If Conor really wanted to fight at 145 pounds again, he would’ve done it and defended his title. The victor of that fight gets the Interim belt and then a shot at Jose Aldo to unify the Featherweight division.

McGregor has never competed in a professional boxing match, but has continued to poke and jab Mayweather from afar in hopes of goading arguably the greatest boxer of all time into a blockbuster bout.
