McCain Assails Trump Over Putin ‘Propaganda’: Russian Pres Murdered ‘People I
John McCain says GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump’s accolades for Russian President Vladimir Putin only serve as propaganda for a man who has murdered journalists and political opponents.
Earlier in December, Putin praised Trump during his traditional end-of-year Q&A session with journalists for wanting deeper ties with Russian Federation.
McCain said “The thing that is so concerning about Mr. Trump’s compliments of Vladimir Putin is Vladimir Putin has slaughtered his own, killed, murdered his own people, including people I knew”. “But this isn’t like somebody that’s stood with a gun and he’s taken the blame or he’s admitted that he’s killed”.
Trump said it would be “despicable” for the Russian leader to kill journalists. “But I have never seen any information or any proof that he killed reporters”. “So, you know, you’re supposed to be innocent until proven guilty, at least in our country”.
President Vladimir Putin said Russian Federation will keep on advancing its nuclear weapons.
“With Ukraine and other areas of the former USSR, I’m sure our Western partners aren’t working in the interests of Ukraine, they are working to prevent the recreation of the USSR”, he said in “World Order”, a documentary broadcast on the public Rossiya 1 channel.
But Stephanopoulos pressed Trump about the murder allegations against Putin.
MSNBC’s report noted that the Committee to Protect Journalists has published the names of journalists killed in Russia: “Since 1992, the CPJ says that 56 journalists of various nationalities have been killed in Russia”.
“If he has killed reporters I think that’s bad”, Trump said. “If he has killed reporters, that’s bad…” Putin served as the country’s president from 2000 to 2008 and became president again in 2012. Putin in turn praised Trump this week, saying at a press conference on Thursday that the controversial businessman is a “very colorful, talented person”.
