McCain Slams Trump for Putin ‘Propaganda’- a ‘Thug and a Murderer’
USA presidential candidate Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin’s mutual admiration of one another appears to be going strong. The Republican frontrunner also vowed again to work closely with Russian Federation, if elected president.
In an interview on Fox News’ “The O’Reilly Factor”, Trump spokesperson Katrina Pearson questioned if it is any good for the U.S.to have nuclear weapons while hesitating to use them.
Pressed by Stephanopoulos, Trump said there was no direct evidence of Putin’s involvement.
Although the USA and Russian Federation have been longtime foes, relations between the two nations have deteriorated rapidly over the past two years, following Moscow’s annexation of the Crimean Peninsula in March last year, and the subsequent imposition of economic sanctions on Russian Federation. Putin in turn praised Trump this week, saying at a press conference on Thursday that the controversial businessman is a “very colorful, talented person”.
“The thing that is so concerning about Mr. Trump’s compliments of Vladimir Putin is Vladimir Putin has slaughtered his own, murdered his own people, including people I knew”, McCain said during an interview on Concord News Radio. I don’t know that he killed reporters. Have you been able to prove that?’.
He added: “Now, I think it would be despicable if that took place, but I haven’t seen any evidence that he’s killed anybody in terms of reporters”. While critics have been hard-pressed to prove Putin ordered killings of journalists, he is widely believed to have allowed an atmosphere of impunity toward those who do kill journalists. “So you’re supposed to be innocent until proven guilty, at least in our country”.
The ABC host referred to numerous “allegations”. And by the way, I hate some of these people but I’d never kill them. “But I have never seen any information or any proof that he killed reporters”. When he was asked to clarify his phrase, he lashed out at another presidential candidate – Hilary Clinton. “Take a look at what we’re doing in the Middle East. We went into Iraq, we shouldn’t have”.
In a statement released by campaign spokesperson Hope Hicks, Trump welcomed Putin’s words of solidarity. But when he was asked about allegations that Putin had stifled and even killed members of the press, here’s what he said. “It has not been proven that he’s killed reporters”, he said. In response, Trump called Putin’s remarks “a great honor”. “Putin can’t stand our president and it’s causing us difficulty”. How can we not welcome that?
Talk about an unlikely bromance: Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump.
“It is always a great honour to be so nicely complimented by a many so highly respected within his own country and beyond”, he said.
