McCain still backing Trump, despite dustups with Republicans
The father, Khizr Khan, criticized Trump’s anti-Muslim rhetoric and said the real estate mogul had “sacrificed nothing and no one”.
Some Republicans – those who can not look the other way or make excuses for Trump on this one – are speaking up.
Just two weeks after a Republican National Convention that tried to focus on party unity, the Trump-driven rifts inside the GOP appear to be intensifying.
Apparently, certain segments of the American populace like that – presumably, they are not the targets of his invective – because Trump won his party’s nomination and the right to square off against Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.
Not only does Whitman plan on supporting Clinton, she also pledged to talk to other prominent Republican donors and work to raise money for her.
In the speech, Khan charged that Trump has promoted anti-Muslim policies and has sacrificed “nothing and no one” for America. “He’ll probably go down as the worst president in the history of our country”, Trump said.
“If you are repeatedly having to say, in very strong terms, that what he has said is unacceptable, why are you still endorsing him?” “He just nauseates me”. Given the fallout, Cruz’s refusal to endorse Trump at his appearance at the GOP convention in Cleveland now looks like a wise choice.
Governor Pence’s defense of Trump could be indicative of his emerging role on the campaign trail: explaining and, at times, mitigating Trump’s incendiary comments. “And we are confident in a victory next week regardless”. “He said, ‘it is more money than we can afford, but I want you to have it for your campaign.’ I just thought it was fantastic”.
And bringing up Ayotte: “I don’t know Kelly Ayotte”.
Walker described learning of Khan’s death, saying she “got up there and wanted to know how I could help, along with a group of soldiers that were with me”. “So I don’t understand why it’s so hard to understand why Donald Trump.is being held responsible for something he had nothing to with while Hillary Clinton had everything to do with”.
Trump went onto say Mr. Khan’s son was a hero but stood by his proposals to ban Muslim immigration in a bid to stop potential terrorists entering the U.S.
The row continues to dominate the United States media and has even overshadowed the campaign which was erupted after Mr. Khyzir Khan severely criticized Trump in his remarks at the convention of the Democratic Party to nominate Hillary Clinton as their candidate to contest Trump.
Keefe, who also attended the DNC and was on stage with other veterans during Gen. John Allen’s speech, told NBC News he met Khan at the convention and was struck by the emotional force of his speech. “Donald Trump couldn’t even name a single sacrifice he has made”.
Trump’s immediate response was to criticize Khan and his wife, earning a number of rebukes from veterans and members of his own party.
The Republican presidential nominee told The Washington Post he’s “just not quite there yet”, when asked about an endorsement of Ryan, who faces a primary election next week. “We must always honor our veterans, and their families; many have endured far more than we can ever imagine, and we must always keep in mind to express our gratitude”, Ernst’s statement said.
