McCain: Trump owes an apology to veterans
In spite of tales of McCain’s harrowing ordeal as a prisoner of war at the “Hanoi Hilton” camp, and widespread outcry in reaction to his words, Trump has refused to back down.
“This is not just an insult to John McCain, who clearly is a war hero and a great man”, Rubio told CNN’s “State of the Union”.
“John McCain has missed”, Trump said, mentioning detain in medical care for experienced users. He said he didn’t think Trump owed him an apology, but did owe one to military families. McCain weighed in after Trump rocked the Republican presidential primary race with his seemingly offhand yet pointed dig at the longtime Arizona senator and former presidential candidate. “Somehow to denigrate that in any way is offensive, I think, to most of our veterans”.
Trump addressed his remarks in a USA Today op-ed on Sunday, saying that the media had distorted his words and that McCain had “abandoned” veterans. “I went from a darling to somebody that they’re not happy with because I’m not a politician”. “Donald Trump’s inevitable self-immolation arrived on the weekend when he assailed John McCain’s war record”, wrote the Journal.

“He’s not a war hero”, Mr Trump said to gasps from the audience.
Earnest made a point of amplifying President Obama’s admiration for McCain’s “heroism” during his five-year imprisonment in Vietnam even as he acknowledged their clear and often heated differences on foreign policy and other major issues. “And our country was divided in an nearly unprecedented fashion during the Vietnam War, and when I came home I was shocked”.

In Delaware, some conservatives who find Trump an appealing, energetic candidate were nevertheless upset by his put-down of McCain.
