McClaren’s warning to Southampton
Newcastle United finished fifteenth in the Premier League last season with 39 points.
United have told Sissoko – who has regularly been linked with a move away from the club, and has spoken of his desire to play in the Champions League – that he will not be allowed to leave this summer.
Steve McClaren has warned Southampton that success in the Europa League could come back to haunt them ahead of the Saints’ trip to face Newcastle at St James’ Park on Sunday. Our performance wants to be much better with the ball and we need to play much better with it.
Newcastle was in all kinds of trouble last season with former manager Alan Pardew moving to Crystal Palace in the middle of the season. So what do they need to do this season? However his time in the first team was short-lived as he exited the game with an injury.
“I loved to see people making back-flips”.
They now start the season with a home clash against Southampton, who were something of a surprise package under Ronald Koeman last term.
But McClaren said: ‘He’s totally unlike him.
“He’s acquired an incredible method about him and really skilled and low upkeep”.
The biggest worry in my opinion with the team is the defence. He is expected to start for Southampton on Sunday, and we’ll get a chance to see what this young lad can bring to the Premier League.
Quick, creative and boasting a level of technical expertise that is impressive even by Dutch standards, the 24-year-old is exactly the sort of player that Newcastle looked to have stopped signing under Mike Ashley. Hopefully the addition of Mbemba to this area will help to enhance their form. John Carver simply couldnt get his side any traction and Newcastle were in real danger of being relegated with nine losses in their last twelve games at the back end of the season. They have both been successful in getting a lot of goals for their previous clubs, which gives the supporters hope that they will continue this positive record at the Toon.
When it comes to transfer market spending this summer, Newcastle United are amazingly top of the table when it comes to net cash going out. At 24, he has 19 Netherlands caps and played in every game for his country at last year’s World Cup, scoring in the third-place play-off victory over Brazil.
Asked if there will be any similarities between the pressure of bossing England and Newcastle, one of the most volatile clubs in the league, McClaren added: “England is very hard to describe”.
