McConnell: Boehner showed ‘grace under pressure’
These poll results – conducted Sunday through Thursday – come as Boehner announced on Friday morning his resignation as speaker, effective on october. 30.
The Republican next in line to succeed U.S. House Speaker John Boehner owes his success, in part, to the same grassroots… “I’m disappointed that they haven’t done what we sent them here to do”, said former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, also a GOP presidential contender. He praised Boehner, in the wake of his announcement, as an “ally” and “friend”.
When another Republican presidential hopeful, Senator Marco Rubio of Florida, interrupted his speech at the event to relay the news that Boehner was leaving, raucous cheers broke out.
At this point, Ingraham said that people are messaging her demanding to know when McConnell will resign, to which she replied “that’s the next question – when will McConnell join him in his resignation?”
The Kentucky Republican has never been the favorite of tea party-aligned conservatives.
That doesn’t mean conservatives will be silent – McConnell epitomizes the Republican establishment in Washington that several of the top GOP presidential candidates such as Donald Trump, Ben Carson and Carly Fiorina are running against. “That’s one down, that’s 434 more to go”, Jindal thundered.
The Journal outlined the ongoing Boehner-McConnell blame-game inside a divided Republican Party, and a certain impetus for cries that the Senate Majority Leader should also take an exit now.
McConnell’s office declined to comment, but referred CNN to the second-ranking Senate Republican, John Cornyn.
Teepell said that Jindal has presented plans in specific detail on health care, energy, and other issues, but that the “press isn’t interested in covering that”.
Angry voters have clamored against both John Boehner and Mitch McConnell the current leader of the Senate, claiming both are obstacles to the conservative goals to “take back our country”.
Scalise touted his record of upholding traditional marriage as a state legislator in Louisiana and pushing anti-abortion legislation as majority whip, the No. 3 post in House leadership.
“We won the Senate”. “And there is nothing that any presidential candidate on our side says that will ever be realized as long as the modern day filibuster is enacted the way it is today”. Cruz said McConnell had promised he had not cut a deal to allow a vote on the Export-Import Bank, an institution Cruz believes is corrupt.
“My faith is critically important to the things that I bring to my leadership in Congress”, Scalise, a Catholic, said.
“We’re spending our time attacking each other rather than the adversary, which is obviously the Democrats and Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama”, McCain told reporters. “That focus now will invariably, and should turn to Mitch McConnell in the Senate”.
