McConnell says senators will get Federal Bureau of Investigation report on Kavanaugh
“It doesn’t necessarily have to be a woman”, Trump said. Kavanaugh was among those questioned in relation to the incident but was not arrested. Everything changed after Christine Blasey Ford agreed to testify at last week’s highly charged hearing on Capitol Hill.
While Flake said Kavanaugh deserves some leeway given what he and his family been through, he said, “We can’t have this on the court”.
Democrats offered harsher assessments. Scrutiny has been building this week on Kavanaugh, not only because of the accusations, but because of his testimony at that hearing.
But the senators whose votes hold the key to confirmation wanted the White House to know they expect those interviews to be a start, not necessarily the full extent of the investigation. “It does not reflect a judicial temperament”.
As Republicans and Democrats clashed over whether the FBI would have enough time and freedom to conduct a thorough investigation before a vote on the nomination, FBI agents have been interviewing multiple witnesses from Mr Kavanaugh’s high school and college years.
Kavanaugh’s allies say Democrats are raising issues of character because they know the Federal Bureau of Investigation will not be able to prove allegations of sexual assault. Trump responded when asked about the embattled Supreme Court nominee by one reporter.
Ludington said he was a varsity basketball and that Kavanaugh enjoyed socializing with athletes. But he said their attempts to delay and obstruct the judge’s nomination end this week.
“I have absolutely no doubt after reviewing Dr. Ford’s testimony that she has suffered from something very traumatic in her lifetime, but simply the corroboration wasn’t there with even the witnesses that she brought forward”, Ernst said. “The politics of personal destruction were willfully unleashed”.
Dom Cozzolino, the man who allegedly was injured in a bar fight involving U.S. Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, went to work in his shabby office in an aging strip mall near Fort Lauderdale, Fla., today as the controversy about Kavanaugh’s future continued to swirl.
“Don’t do that”, he told another reporter who tried to ask about Kavanaugh before he was done speaking about trade.
What he’s said: “I agreed to support him before all of this came out”.
A witness told police the man who threw the glass was Chris Dudley, Kavanaugh’s close friend. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) and Sen.
Schumer said Kavanaugh seemed willing to “mislead senators about everything from the momentous to the mundane” to ensure his confirmation.
“That finishes everything”, Manchin said. “It was bad. I think everybody has struggled”.
Despite this, NBC news quoted a White House official as saying restrictions remained in place, adding that as the FBI is carrying out a background – not a criminal – investigation, the White House decides the parameters of the probe. Ford has alleged that Judge was in the room when Kavanaugh assaulted her. He has previously sent two letters to the Senate committee indicating he does not recall events described by Ford. “The FBI needs to be allowed to pursue all reasonable investigatory steps from the credible allegations in front of the committee”, he said. He vehemently denies the allegation. She and Kavanaugh and a few other students were playing a drinking game and were both drunk.
Ford, Kavanaugh’s first public accuser, has said that Judge, Keyser and Smyth were present at the party where she says Kavanaugh assaulted her in the early 1980s. She said further that over a series of parties, she saw Kavanaugh “consistently engage in excessive drinking and inappropriate contact of a sexual nature with women during the early 1980s”.
During his remarks, McConnell dowplayed those allegations. “And that argument evaporated”, McConnell said.
They said they want the findings released publicly, and want an in-person briefing for senators with the agent who is leading the new background check. “It’s one of my only good traits”, he said to laughter.
