McDonald’s employee fatally stabbed by homeless man, police say
At about 4:30 Monday morning, police say as he was leaving work for the day, Garcia asked a man who had been in the restaurant for hours to leave as well.
Police released surveillance footage late Monday of a homeless man they believe mortally stabbed a popular McDonald’s manager in the parking lot of the fast-food restaurant.
Police continue to search for the suspect.
The victim died at 5:08 a.m.at New York Presbyterian Hospital/ Allen Pavilion. His assailant, a man described by locals as “homeless” and a familiar face around there, fled. He said that though the McDonald’s is located next to the 50th Police Precinct it is not necessarily a safe place in the middle of the night. The man left, but came back with a weapon that he used to stab Garcia several times in the chest and neck, according to the NYPD. “I just wanted to see him”.
The owner of the McDonald’s, Chris Treftz, said he was “saddened and shocked by this morning’s awful incident”.
Police said a person and an employee got into a dispute inside the restaurant.
Garcia’s cousin, Karen, said he loved his family and took his job seriously.
No arrests have been made, CBS added. Anyone with information on the suspect is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
