McDonald’s gets complaints that new ‘Minions’ toy from Happy Meal uses curse
“Minions” stars Sandra Bullock and Jon Hamm, and follows the evolution of the small, yellow creatures since the beginning of time and the numerous despicable masters they have served.
The toy coming under scrutiny is the minion Caveman.
McDonald’s denied Thursday that its Minions toys are cursing. Parents are complaining that the McDonald’s toy Minions spew out vile sayings instead.
Merten said he was anxious that his granddaughter could pick up the phrase.
In a statement, a McDonald’s spokesman said: “Minions speak “Minionese, ‘ which is a random combination of many languages and nonsense words and sounds””.
Dad Paul Butts posted this video to YouTube after buying his kid a Happy Meal. The funny-looking toy says three phrases, all of which are hard to understand because, well, they aren’t exactly top-quality toy designs from Hasbro (HAS) or Mattel (MAT).
McDonald’s says that’s not the case.
“I think definitely if someone told you to try to hear it in there, you could make it out”, he continued.
“The allegation that this toy is saying any offensive phrase is not true”, a McDonald’s spokeswoman told CNBC. But one Florida family says what was in one they bought was more of a shock, reports ABC affiliate WFTV in Orlando.
Ms Brennan, a stay at home mother of Glossop, Derbyshire, desparately wrote to McDonald’s who replied that the toys speak “Minionese” and any similarities to curse words were “purely coincidental”.
McDonald’s is aware of the complaints and says it regrets any confusion but there’s nothing profane or inappropriate about the toy.
