McG In Talks To Direct Masters of the Universe Reboot
Sony is one step closer to the new live-action He-Man Masters of the Universe movie as it’s being reported McG is now in talks to direct the film.
Originally launched as a popular Mattel toy line in 1982, “Masters of the Universe” spawned several animated series (including the female-driven spinoff cartoon series, “She-Ra: Princess of Power”) along with a 1987 live-action film.
The Masters of the Universe franchise began as a line of toys in the early ’80s, and became a successful comic and TV show, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.
Masters of the Universe has been in the works in Hollywood for decades.
The film, like the original, will center on protagonist He-Man, secretly Prince Adam of Eternia, and his nemesis Skeletor. The movie has had several directors and writers attached at different points in time. “G.I”. Later Jeff Wadlow (“Kick-Ass 2”) had both drafted a version of the film and was in contention to direct.
McG’s last film was the disappointing Kevin Costner vehicle Three Days To Kill, but he’s made his name off the back of Terminator: Salvation and two Charlie’s Angels features.
